The illuminated inscription It’s Too Late to Give Up carries a gesture of hope while remaining deeply inscribed within the urgency of the contemporary moment. The phrase evokes a sense of optimism and resilience that emerges precisely at the brink of crisis. Conceived as a “semantic sculpture,” the work introduces a contemplative and poetic dimension into public space, addressing visitors while connecting with both personal and collective experience. In doing so, it generates encounters, reflections, and narratives that unfold in relation to the site and its audience. It functions as a kind of constellation—an arrangement of meaning interpreted through temporal and spatial contexts that are at once personal and political.
The sentence inverts conventional notions of time, foregrounding the unpredictable and fluid relationship between past and future. Containing elements of temporal paradox, it becomes a quiet call for persistence, inviting viewers to sustain the possibility of hope. Without making big promises, the work offers a simple encouragement: to keep going and not give up.
Installed in the Green Museumbrary Lobby, the work fosters a sense of shared presence and solidarity in the uncertain times we inhabit. Translations of the sentence into other languages, including those spoken in Taiwan, will be available on a postcard featuring a photograph of the work.
Since 2023, the inscription has been placed in three Croatian cities: above the entrance of Zagreb Central Railway Station, on the façade of the Rijeka Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and in 2024 on the façade of the Split Youth Centre, where it continues to shine toward the future.
